About This Competition
The Norway Toppserien is the top flight of professional women’s football in Norway. Since the formation of all-female Norwegian football back in 1977, there have been a few different formations under different names. Names such as the Eliteserien and the 1. Divisjon. The current top flight of professional women’s association football in Norway is known as the Toppserien. This league is made up of 12 teams that play 22 games for the right to qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League. They also compete for their domestic competition the Norwegian Cup. Each team plays home and away games, with the top placed team lifting the Norwegian Cup. The bottom two placed teams at the end of the season are relegated to the 1. Divisjon. There is no promotion from Norway Toppserien league, however as the Toppserien is one of UEFA confirmed top eight leagues in Europe, the two teams finishing in the top two positions at the end of the season qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League.
